Hopalong Animal Rescue

Mission Statement: Hopalong Animal Rescue is a non-profit companion animal rescue and placement service. We rescue cats and dogs surrendered or abandoned at our local shelters. Our mission is to eliminate the euthanasia of dogs and cats through rescue, spay/neuter, and education programs.

Description: Hopalong's approach to rescue includes placement in foster homes, temperament evaluation, and basic training. Our goal is to match the animal that will best fit into the adopter’s lifestyle, and provide them with a lifelong companion. Hopalong Animal Rescue is a pro-active agency committed to assisting both the animals as well as their caregivers in both the local community and beyond. We are well respected in the community and pride ourselves on the quality of animals we manage, our ability to collaborate with other groups, and our longevity.

Self-Sustaining Communities

Mission Statement: To assist in creating a systemic change in the SF East Bay area where basic survival needs of food, shelter, energy and social inclusion are met in green, local ways, by and for the residents in challenged areas predominantly in Richmond, CA, but not limited thereto, through sweat equity.

Description: Provide materials and assistance for the creation to date of four urban farms in challenged areas of Richmond, including chickens, beehive building, rainwater harvesting, aquaponics and solar set-ups. We have distributed to date over 11,455 olive, nut and fruit trees directly into low income neighborhoods for those residents to plant and harvest themselves. We have built a demonstration building structure on one of the sites made of local clay, recycled wood and recycled windows, to move buildings into green, local and beautiful works of art, accessible and do-able by the community.

A Leg Up Rescue

Mission Statement: A Leg Up Rescue is a nonprofit 501c3 organization dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats from life-threatening situations. All of these companion animals were either in danger of being euthanized in animal shelters, neglected or abused, or taken from the public (when space permits) so they are not bounced around to different homes or collected and sold to research labs by "bunchers." We do not have a shelter or kennel. We place the pets in wonderful and compassionate foster homes so they may begin to develop exceptional house behavior.

Description: A Leg Up Rescue takes animals from the shelter and places them in loving, dedicated foster homes where they develop exceptional house behavior. Prior to being placed in responsible homes, they receive health examinations, spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccines, etc. just to name the routine treatment. If additional medical issues need to be resolved, we tend to those as well (hernias, surgeries, dental issues, etc.). We are often the "last chance" these dogs have due to the high cost of medical treatment, or lengthy recovery time. We work with the shelters to give these animals the chance they deserve
