Bay Localize

Mission Statement: We inspire and support Bay Area residents in building equitable, resilient communities. We confront the challenges of climate instability, rising energy costs, and recession by boosting our region's capacity to provide for everyone's needs, sustainably and equitably. We achieve this by equipping local leaders with flexible tools, models, and policies that strengthen their communities.

Description: The goal is clear. Reaching it means coming to terms with climate change, our addiction to oil, and deep social inequalities. Bay Localize creates innovative solutions for communities to meet basic needs in ways that harness local resources creatively, sustainably, and equitably. We catalyze change at the community level by providing tools to chart a path to resilience, and ramping up good models to scale through local policy change. Bay Localize focuses our work where we live in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area, but our tools and models are replicated throughout the country and the world. Bay Localize believes that vibrant local economies and healthy communities are the answer to our growing challenges. They are the best safeguard against global insecurity, an essential part of achieving social equity, and a vital way to enrich our day-to-day lives. Join Bay Localize in creating a hopeful and vibrant future for us all.

At The Crossroads

Mission Statement: The mission of At The Crossroads is to reach out to homeless youth and young adults at their point of need, and work with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives.

Description: Our model focuses on young people who do not access traditional services and are disconnected from any type of consistent support. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. We remove common barriers to service by bringing our counselors onto the streets, and shaping our support services around the needs of each individual client. Our goal is to help our clients build outstanding lives, not just lives of subsistence.

Our Experience With Party Corps:

At The Crossroads is an organization in San Francisco that reaches out to homeless youth at their point of need and works with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives.

We are huge fans of Party Corps! We were recently the beneficiary of Party Corps' November concert, and we couldn't have been happier with the event!

Coordinating the event with Alexis and Olivia  and the rest of the Party Corps team was a joy - they are enthusiastic, organized leaders who are passionate about connecting people with good music and important causes in the community.

The concert was not only packed with incredible talent - Carolyn Malachi's performance was absolutely amazing, and guests enjoyed dancing to Señor Oz's DJ mix - but the event also gave us a unique opportunity to share about At The Crossroads and the young people we work with.

Thank you, Party Corps, for your creativity, enthusiasm and community-building!

GirlVentures

Mission Statement: GirlVentures is a unique Bay Area nonprofit that empowers adolescent girls to develop and express their strengths through outdoor adventure and leadership courses. GirlVentures deliberately recruits Bay Area girls from a variety of backgrounds, helping them to Live Healthy, Relate Wisely and Lead Confidently. Two-thirds of girls on each course come from low- to middle-income families and receive partial or full scholarships to participate. Our school year and summer courses build connections with our natural environment, as well as confidence and character that girls bring back to their lives at home, in school and in the community.

Description: Our courses connect youth with the outdoors through 7-14 day expeditions that are enticing and accessible. Complete with transportation, top quality gear, healthy food, professional, fun and compassionate instructors, and a robust curriculum, our appropriately challenging adventures engage youth in discovering their inner fortitude and realizing they are capable of so much more than they thought. These extended periods in nature with intentional reflections (sola time, daily writing, etc.) help girls find their place in the natural environment and begin to feel sustained and nurtured by it. Girls are often astounded to realize the beauty and wonder in their ‘backyard’ when they round the bend on their hike out of Point Reyes and see both the breathtaking ocean vista behind them and the skyline of San Francisco/home in front of them. These experiences foster a sense of stewardship and a desire to protect their new-found friend: mother nature. Curriculum along the way reinforces their discoveries about how connected we are with the land & waterways as we discuss LNT ethics and witness our own impact. Our approach is strength-based, affording girls the time and space to take healthy risks, both physical and emotional. Girls learn to trust and support themselves and one another while kayaking, backpacking, rock-climbing and more. Girls go back to school, home and their communities with a renewed sense of confidence, character and connection with nature. From self-care to alliance building; from creative expression, to leadership and decision-making; from technical skills, to teambuilding; a connection with the environmental is woven throughout our courses.
